Suchan Walnut Slabs – Black walnut, Paradox hybrid walnut and English walnut

Alex Suchan has been farming English walnuts since 1943. Below is a wonderful link to a video he helped make of walnut grafting, budding and general care of walnut trees that is a great resource if you are growing walnut trees.

Our farm is located on the north shore of Clear Lake in the town of Upper Lake. See the map below, along with our contact information.

We use a Wood-Mizer mill that has a 27” capacity so our slabs are 27” or less in width. We have a variety of lengths from 3’ to 6’. The majority of our slabs are 2” thick. We have a very small selection of 1” thick slabs. Most have at least one live edge and many have two live edges. Some of our customers make tables of two slabs and join them with a river of epoxy in various colors.

Our 2” thick slabs cost $50.00 per running foot and our 1” slabs cost $25.00 per running foot.

We have a small selection of oak slabs, eucalyptus slabs, and persimmon slabs, along with Black walnut, Paradox hybrid walnut and English walnut slabs.

Our trees were planted in the fifties and sixties, with some that were planted in the thirties.

We have many trees that can be purchased from the field that are too large for our mill. Rather than make firewood out of the trees we remove when they have reached the end of their productive life, we decided to mill them. All the slabs we currently have for sale are seasoned at least two years.

Pictured are a few examples of finished products made by our customers and photos of the available standing trees for those who have larger mills of their own and want to purchase trees to mill.
